A Message From The Board President:
Welcome to the Dixie School District website! I am proud to be a
member of the Dixie Board of Trustees. The Board is made up of five
individuals working towards one goal; providing the best education and
learning experience for the children who attend the schools in our
district.
The Trustees on the School Board have a wide variety of skills and
experiences that contribute to our ability to govern the district. We
all have or have had children in the district which allows us to have an
ongoing involvement with the staff and school sites. As a parent with
children in the district, I have volunteered in the classroom, been a
member of the Site Council and a CanDo! Class Representative.
The parents, teachers, district employees, and administrators comprise
our unique Dixie community. We are fortunate to have the support of the
PTA, Home and School Clubs, Site Councils, local businesses and the Can
Do! Education Foundation.
This past year was filled with plenty of successes. Our District’s
test scores topped a score of 900 for the first time. This puts Dixie
in the top 10% of the state. We were also able to pass Measure A,
which guarantees vital funding for our schools, by an unprecedented
80%.
Even with the passing of Measure A, budget issues will continue to be a
major focus for our Board. Tough times lie ahead as the state
continues to make cuts to education. Up to now we have done an
excellent job of keeping cuts away from the classroom. With the
upcoming budget, however, hard decisions will have to be made and we
will be looking to our parent community for input. I am confident that
we will come together and make the best decision for the children in the
district. We do not take this job lightly.
My wife Keli and I have been parents in the district for the past eight
years. Our daughter Alexa is in 7th grade at Miller Creek
and our son Jack has just started his education journey in kindergarten
at Mary E. Silveira Elementary School.
